6-8-5 Sketching

We opted towards incorporating a modified version of this method, foregoing the grid, and focusing on sketching aspects of our game idea. The method allowed us to (visually) articulate each of our visions for our game, and enabled us to develop our concept, by diving into specifics, i.e. core gameplay mechanics, visual aesthetic, story beats etc.

Culture + Value + Game Collage

We opted towards incorporating a modified version of this method. We consolidated our moodboarding through the platform, Pinterest, mainly due to familiarity, and its collaborative + collaging features. We created sections for each aspect of our concept, i.e. NPCs, level design, world-building etc.

Games through Culture concept

How might we…

Remind people that Ida Hammershøi lived 33 years after the death of her husband, famous painter Vilhem Hammershøi, even though the documentation about her life after his passing is very limited. When he stopped portraying her, she disappeared from history.

Atmosphere

Emotion: Melancholy Themes: Loneliness, passivity, hopelessness, understated  Aesthetic: Like a Hammershøi painting (colors, decor etc.)

Characters

Novice tour guide: 1st person

Scene 1: At ARoS

Quest A: Discover that there is something wrong with the paintings; Ida is missing  *Portal into one of the Hammershøi paintings*

Scene 2: At Hammershøi apartment, Strandvej 30

Quest B: Find Ida’s dairy (maybe it’s under her pillow or in a drawer on the nightstand) *The diary opens: A date appears in the top corner of the screen; we hear a short snippet from that day be read aloud. Sound of the pages turning. A new day; a new snippet being read aloud.*

• Each snippet is inspired by Jesper Wung-Sung’s novel Kvinde set fra ryggen and the purpose is to depict the every life of Ida as the wife and muse of Wilhelm.

Quest C:  Quest ?: Figure out the date/year, and discover that Ida recently became a widow (maybe through newspapers, photos, letters)
